Mogadishu (SONNA): Thousands of angry Somalis took to the streets of Mogadishu on Wednesday night to protest against a deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland, which they see as a threat to their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The protesters chanted slogans and waved flags, expressing their solidarity with the Somali government and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who have rejected the deal as a violation of international law and the African Union charter.
The protesters accused Ethiopia of meddling in Somalia’s internal affairs and trying to divide the Somali people. They also called for the international community to intervene and stop Ethiopia’s aggression.
“We support our government and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s decision that they will never negotiate on the soil and the presidency of the Somali nation,” said Asha Hassan Noor, one of the youths who joined the demonstration.
The demonstration was peaceful and no incidents of violence were reported. The Somali security forces were deployed to maintain order and protect the protesters.
