Ankara (SONNA) – The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Maalin, and the Minister of Justice of Turkey, Mr. Yılmaz Tunç, have signed two key agreements in Ankara, Turkey in a significant development aimed at strengthening legal cooperation. The agreements focus on the transfer of sentenced prisoners and mutual legal assistance in criminal proceedings.

Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners

The first agreement facilitates the transfer of prisoners sentenced in Somalia or Turkey to their respective home countries to complete their prison sentences. This agreement aims to allow prisoners to be closer to their families and communities, thereby promoting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Proceedings

The second agreement establishes a cooperative framework between the two nations for criminal proceedings. It includes provisions for the exchange of evidence, execution of court requests, and joint efforts in combating international crimes. This mutual legal assistance is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of legal processes in both countries.

These agreements highlight the enduring friendship between Somalia and Turkey and emphasize their joint commitment to promoting peace, justice, and mutual understanding on an international scale. The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia remains dedicated to upholding the rule of law and justice.
