The Deputy Speaker of the Somali Parliament, Mrs. Saadiyo Yasin Haji Samatar, has presided over the closing ceremony of a three-day consultation meeting on the constitutional review process in Mogadishu.
The meeting, which brought together representatives from the federal and state governments, the two houses of the parliament, the independent and monitoring committees for the constitutional review, and experts in constitutional affairs, aimed to propose amendments to the first four chapters of the provisional constitution.
The Speakers of the regional parliaments stressed the need to finalize the constitutional review and adopt the amendments to end the transitional period and establish a permanent legal framework for the country.
The State Minister for Justice, Mu’min Sheikh Omar, urged the stakeholders to avoid politicizing or economizing the constitution and to focus on the national interest and the aspirations of the Somali people.
Mrs. Samatar thanked the participants and the organizers for their efforts and called for their continued support and cooperation to complete the constitutional review and implementation process. She said the Somali people were eagerly awaiting the outcome of their work.
