Mogadishu, Somalia – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, has urged Somali scholars to lead the fight against the Khawarij groups that are threatening the religion and existence of the Somali people.

Speaking at the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Sheikh Abdulqadir Jeylaani, a prominent Islamic scholar who worked hard to spread and defend Islam, the Prime Minister praised the important role that Sheikh played in teaching and defending Islam.

He said that Sheikh Jeylaani was an example of a true scholar who sacrificed his life for the sake of Allah and his people.

“When the country was in danger, those who took up arms were Somali scholars who led the people in defending their country, today our people and our religion are attacked by Khawarij and scholars must take their role in leading the fight against Khawarij,” he said.

He added that the government is committed to supporting the religious institutions and scholars in their efforts to counter the extremist ideology and violence of the Khawarij groups.

The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the House of the People and members of the two chambers of government, religious scholars and various segments of society.
