The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr Hussein Ibrahim Taha, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
The two officials discussed the role of the OIC in the Islamic countries and its contribution to the development of humanitarian and development programs, especially in Somalia, which is facing multiple challenges such as drought, famine, terrorism, and political instability.
The Minister expressed his appreciation for the OIC’s support to Somalia and its people, and highlighted the need for more cooperation and coordination between the OIC and the Somali government in various fields.
The Secretary General reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to stand by Somalia and assist it in achieving peace, stability, and prosperity. He also praised the progress made by the Somali government in implementing the electoral process and fighting against the extremist group Al-Shabaab.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Representative of the OIC in Somalia, Abdurahman Osman Cilmi, who briefed them on the efforts of the government and the operations against the peace spoilers.
On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia visited the Somali Consulate in Jeddah, where he met with the Consul General and the staff. He thanked them for their services and urged them to continue working hard to serve the Somali community in Saudi Arabia.
The Minister also met with some members of the Somali diaspora in Jeddah and listened to their views and suggestions on how to improve the relations between Somalia and Saudi Arabia. He assured them that the Somali government is keen to strengthen its ties with Saudi Arabia and other friendly countries in the region.
