Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, H.E. Ahmed Hassan Aden, officially signed into effect a new regulatory framework today, establishing a dedicated national agency for ensuring the safety of fish and food security in Somalia.
The new regulation marks a significant step in strengthening Somalia’s systems for managing marine resources, ensuring that fish supplied to both domestic and international markets meet quality and health standards. The newly established agency will play a vital role in safeguarding fish safety and boosting consumer and investor confidence.
The regulation also emphasizes the promotion and export of Somali fish, supporting the country’s economic growth. With its vast marine resources, Somalia is well-positioned to tap into global seafood markets. The fish safety agency is expected to enhance the credibility and competitiveness of Somali fish exports, paving the way for a regulated, reliable, and reputable seafood trade.
Beyond trade facilitation, the framework aims to foster a transparent and lawful business environment that contributes to food safety and economic development. The agency is also expected to build the capacity of fisheries professionals and administrators, while contributing to marine conservation to ensure long-term sustainability and community benefits.
