Mogadishu (SONNA): The Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), under the leadership of Commissioner Mohamud Macalin Abdulle, officially opened a 2-day consultation meeting in Mogadishu today. This conference, dedicated to discussing the guidance and coordination of emergency responses, brings together key stakeholders and experts to enhance Somalia’s capacity to tackle crises effectively.

Jointly organized by SoDMA, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Somalia, and the World Food Program (WFP), the conference aims to develop strategic recommendations for emergency response through the social protection process. It also seeks to formulate a comprehensive strategy to address potential threats.

Attendees at this significant event include Directors General from several federal ministries such as Finance, Agriculture, Livestock, Family and Development of Human Rights, and representatives from member states’ ministries for humanitarian affairs. The conference has also attracted participation from various supporting organizations and international bodies, highlighting the broad and collaborative effort to improve Somalia’s emergency response mechanisms.

In his opening remarks, Commissioner Abdulle emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and shared knowledge in building a resilient emergency response framework. “Our goal is to create a robust system that can respond swiftly and effectively to any crisis, ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens,” he stated.

The conference provides a critical platform for exchanging valuable insights and fostering collaboration among the attending entities. Through these discussions, the participants aim to generate actionable recommendations that will strengthen Somalia’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

As the meeting progresses, it is expected to produce well-rounded strategies that incorporate the latest best practices in emergency management. These strategies will be instrumental in guiding the nation’s efforts to mitigate the impacts of disasters and enhance resilience at both national and community levels.

Mr. Abdulle extended his gratitude to all the participants for their dedication and collaborative spirit. He particularly acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the WFP in co-organizing this essential conference.
