Mogadishu (SONNA): The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Yusuf Hussein Jimale (Madaale), recently held an important meeting with the Interim Committee of the two Houses of Parliament of the Federal Government of Somalia. This committee is responsible for preparing legislation for elections, the adoption of political parties, and drafting the bill for the establishment of the commission for elections and boundaries.
During the meeting, the Banadir Region administration presented their suggestions and recommendations related to the Draft Law on the National Elections Act, which is currently under consideration by the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia. These recommendations aim to enhance the electoral process and ensure fair and transparent elections.
A significant highlight of the discussions was Somalia’s intention to hold its first-ever one man, one vote election. This historic move will allow the public to directly determine who will govern them, thereby exercising their democratic right in a manner unprecedented in the nation’s history.
The chairman of the interim committee, MP Mahdi Mohamed Guled, along with other committee members, expressed their gratitude to the Banadir regional administration for their valuable input. They assured that the recommendations would be thoroughly considered in the finalization of the electoral law.
“This collaborative effort shows our commitment to strengthening Somalia’s democratic processes,” said MP Mahdi Mohamed Guled. “The implementation of the National Elections Act will be a pivotal step towards ensuring that every citizen has a voice in the governance of our country.”
