Mogadishu (SONNA): The Somali Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, endorsed two crucial bills during their weekly meeting. Here are the key highlights:

Income Tax Bill: The Cabinet approved the draft Income Tax Bill, signaling the government’s commitment to establishing a robust tax system for the country. This legislation aims to diversify revenue streams and create a sustainable financial future. Alongside the Income Tax Bill, the Cabinet also addressed regulations related to General Financial Management, Debt Policy, Lending, and Issuance Procedures, forming a comprehensive framework for managing national finances.

Infrastructure Development: The Ministry of Public Works presented detailed plans for road construction projects in key Somali cities, including Garowe, Baidoa, and Kismayo. Additionally, the ministry highlighted its intentions to improve drainage and sewer systems in Mogadishu, the capital city. These infrastructure projects hold immense potential to enhance transportation networks and sanitation across Somalia.

Security Operations: The Council of Ministers received updates from the Ministries of Internal Security and Defense. Reports focused on ongoing efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab, from various regions within the country. The Cabinet commended recent successes in clearing terrorist elements from several areas, emphasizing the government’s commitment to peace and stability.

Overall, this week’s Cabinet meeting addressed a number of issues crucial to Somalia’s future. The implementation of the Income Tax Bill, combined with infrastructure projects and security measures, represents a positive step towards a more prosperous and secure nation.
