Mahadaay, Somalia – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has delivered 30 trucks of humanitarian aid to the people affected by the floods in the Mahadaay district in the Middle Shabelle region and the host community of the Hirshabelle Administration.

The aid is meant to provide relief to the thousands of people who have been displaced by the heavy rains and the overflowing of the Shabelle River.

The SoDMA also provided a large boat that can be used to rescue people trapped in some areas where the vehicles cannot reach due to the flood. The boat is equipped with life jackets and ropes.

The SoDMA deputy commissioner, Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan, said that the agency is working closely with the local authorities and the humanitarian partners to coordinate the response and to assess the needs of the affected population.

He also thanked the donors and the international community for their support and urged them to continue their assistance as the situation remains critical.

The flooding of the Shabelle River has caused widespread damage and displacement in several regions of Somalia, especially in the Lower and Middle Shabelle regions.
