The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, addressed the EU and the emerging countries meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on Thursday. He spoke about the achievements of his government in transforming humanitarian aid into development projects.
He also praised the Somali security forces for liberating more than 80 districts from the Al Shabaab militants since July 2022. He said that education had been restored in coastal cities like Harardheere, where schools and teachers had been reformed.
The president said that Somali children had now received a new opportunity for a bright future with hope and progress.
He thanked the European Union for its continued support and partnership with Somalia, and expressed his commitment to strengthening democracy, human rights, and good governance in his country.
The meeting in Brussels was attended by leaders and representatives from various countries and organizations, who discussed issues such as climate change, migration, security, and trade.
