Mogadishu, SONNA — The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag), on Tuesday officially opened the Program Steering Committee (PSC) meeting focused on advancing the second phase of the Joint Police Programme (JPP II), aimed at strengthening public security and policing services across the country.

The meeting, co-chaired by the International Partnership, focused on reviewing and approving the 2026 work plan and budget to accelerate and enhance the implementation of the Joint Police Programme – Phase II.

The conference was attended by State Ministers responsible for security, the Special Assistant Commander of the Somali Police Force, senior police officers, and representatives from international partners, including UNDP, UNTMIS, UN Women, IOM, AUSOM, as well as the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK).

Participants held detailed discussions on the level of implementation of JPP II, coordination of activities between the federal and state levels, and lessons learned from previous phases of the programme. The meeting also explored practical measures to accelerate the delivery of effective and people-centered public security services.

At the conclusion of the conference, the Program Steering Committee officially approved the JPP II annual work plan and budget for 2026. The approval forms part of ongoing national efforts to strengthen Somalia’s security institutions, particularly the Somali Police Force, by enhancing its capacity, professionalism, and ability to serve the public and contribute to national stability.

In his remarks, Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail expressed appreciation to international donors and partners for their continued support, emphasizing that the JPP II programme will play a critical role in building a capable, efficient, and accountable police force that works closely with Somali communities.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to security sector reform as a cornerstone of peace, stability, and state-building in Somalia.
