Information Minister Chairs Media Coordination Meeting Ahead of Independence Week

Mogadishu (SONNA) — The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdulfatah Kasim Mahamud, chaired the monthly coordination meeting of Federal Government information offices today. Convened at the Office of the Prime Minister, the high-level meeting focused heavily on consolidating state messaging, enhancing inter-agency media relations, and accelerating comprehensive public awareness campaigns across the nation.

A primary agenda item during the session was the strategic preparation and broadcasting of civic campaigns for the upcoming Independence and Unity Day commemorations. The administration established a firm consensus on the importance of delivering a cohesive national narrative. This unified messaging aims to effectively communicate the profound value of freedom, promote patriotism, and honor the historical struggles of the Somali independence movement. These national observances serve as a critical period for the Federal Government to project a unified national identity and reinforce structural cohesion.

The Government Spokesperson and Director of Information at the Office of the Prime Minister, H.E. Abdinasir Ahmed Bashir, detailed the operational objectives of the gathering. He emphasized the requirement for seamless inter-agency cooperation to maintain a highly coordinated communications apparatus.

“This coordination is essential to ensure that our government communications remain unified, transparent, and highly effective in reaching the Somali public,” the Spokesperson said. Following his briefing, participants exchanged strategic recommendations on inter-agency data sharing, establishing a singular national media direction, and elevating the overall quality of civic engagement.

In his concluding directives, Minister Abdulfatah Kasim Mahamud formally urged all state institutions to double their efforts in civic education, national defense, and public integration. He further highlighted the constitutional obligation to preserve the Somali language and formally respect the republic’s national symbols.

“The protection, development, and official use of our mother tongue, alongside the deep respect for our national symbols, are the fundamental foundations of our national identity and unity,” Minister Abdulfatah stated.

The Minister concluded the meeting by calling upon both state agencies and the general public to stand united in defending national causes, protecting the collective solidarity of the people, and actively preventing any actions designed to compromise the stability, coexistence, and general interests of the Somali state.
