MOGADISHU, SONNA – The Federal Government of Somalia, in a ceremony held in Mogadishu, officially received a donation of modern vehicles and equipment from the UK government. The gear is specifically designed to support the Somali National Army’s efforts in countering improvised explosive devices (C-IED), a critical component of its fight against terrorism.
The handover event was attended by Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalin Fiqi, and the Chief of the Somali National Army, General Odowaa Yusuf Raage. The UK Ambassador to Mogadishu, Charles King, presented the equipment to Minister Fiqi.
Minister Fiqi thanked the UK government for its continuous support, highlighting that the donation is a reflection of the UK’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities and skills of the Somali National Army. He emphasized that the new equipment will significantly improve the safety and effectiveness of their operations.
The minister also noted that this strategic partnership with the UK is crucial for Somalia’s efforts to achieve lasting peace, stability, and a sustainable future. The equipment, intended for the Industrial Brigade of the Somali National Army, is a key step forward in modernizing the nation’s defense capabilities and strengthening its resolve against militant groups.
