Mogadishu, Somalia — The Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education has initiated the final examinations for government-recruited teachers enrolled in a comprehensive two-year national training program. This significant step marks a major milestone in the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education throughout Somalia.

The examination, administered by the Somali National University (SNU), is a crucial component of the program designed to certify qualified educators. The first cohort, comprising teachers from the 2023 intake, is sitting for their final exams, signifying the completion of their two-year training. Meanwhile, the second cohort, enrolled in 2024, is advancing to the second year of the program.

The training initiative is a direct response to the need for a skilled and professional teaching workforce. By providing a structured and standardized training pathway, the Ministry aims to create a pool of competent teachers capable of delivering high-quality education to students across the country. This program is considered a fundamental pillar in the broader strategy to rebuild and reform Somalia’s education sector, which has faced numerous challenges over the past decades.

The successful conclusion of this program for its first cohort will enable the Ministry to deploy newly certified teachers to schools, ensuring that students receive instruction from well-prepared and qualified professionals. The initiative is a clear reflection of the government’s commitment to investing in human capital and laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future for Somali youth.
