Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has officially launched the Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060) — a bold, long-term development roadmap that aims to transform Somalia into a peaceful, resilient, and upper-middle-income country by the year 2060.
The unveiling ceremony, held in Mogadishu, brought together high-level government officials, representatives from federal member states, development partners, diplomats, and policy experts. The Vision lays out a national framework built on inclusive consultation and aligns closely with continental goals such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Speaking at the event, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized the urgency of national unity, shared responsibility, and long-term planning.
“We are grateful to the world for their continued support to Somalia, and we must now realize the aspirations of Somalis who want to compete globally,” said the President.
The Vision 2060 framework was developed by Somali experts in collaboration with international partners, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UN-ECA). It is structured around seven National Transformation Phases (NTPs), with the first five-year plan — NTP 2025–2029 — already launched earlier this year.
Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre reiterated the importance of national participation in implementing the vision.
“Every Somali must take part in achieving the goals of Centennial Vision 2060,” he stated.
The Executive Secretary of the UN-ECA, Claver Gatete, who traveled to Mogadishu for the occasion, described the Vision as a model of ambition and collaboration.
“I am delighted to be in Mogadishu ahead of the launch of the Centennial Vision 2060 — Somalia’s 35-year bold new transformation roadmap.”

As the country enters this ambitious new chapter, the government has called on all Somalis, at home and abroad, to contribute to the realisation of a shared national future. The launch of Vision 2060 marks not just a planning milestone, but a historic opportunity for Somalia to define its path on its own terms — guided by its people, rooted in hope, and aiming for global competitiveness.
