Mogadishu, March 21, 2025 – The Diaspora Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation hosted the annual “Diaspora Night” on Friday in Mogadishu, bringing together senior government officials and diaspora returnees for a Ramadan Iftar aimed at strengthening engagement and fostering discussions on national development.
The event, sponsored by Dahabshiil Group, focused on the diaspora’s role in national development and state-building, highlighting their contributions to the country’s progress.
Speaking at the event, Acting Permanent Secretary and Director of the Protocol Department, Mr. Hussein Sheikh Abdisalam, emphasized the significance of the gathering, noting that it is the second of its kind and has become an important annual tradition. He praised Dahabshiil Bank for its sponsorship and reaffirmed the government’s recognition of the diaspora’s role in the nation’s economic and social development.
Director of the Diaspora Affairs Department, Dr. Mohamed Hussein Gaas, emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to engaging with Somali communities abroad, focusing on resolving their challenges and strengthening collaboration with host countries.
