Ankara, (SONNA) — Somalia and Türkiye have officially launched the implementation of a long-standing cooperation agreement signed in June 2016 between the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye.
The signing ceremony took place in Ankara and was jointly chaired by Türkiye’s Minister of Labour and Social Security, Prof. Dr. Vedat Işıkhan, and Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Prof. Salim Aliyoow Ibro. The event was attended by Somalia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, the Director General Mr. Yusuf Hassan, and members of delegations from both countries.
Following the ceremony, a technical meeting was held focusing on 15 key action points scheduled for implementation during the 2026–2027 period. These measures are intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas including employment, skills development and vocational training, occupational safety and health (OSH), and the advancement of social services.
Both sides agreed to accelerate the implementation of the agreement’s provisions, with the aim of strengthening Somalia’s labour institutions and deepening sustained cooperation with the Government of Türkiye.
