Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala received Mr. Bob Flannery, the Counterterrorism Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in strategic communication and media engagement in counterterrorism efforts, as well as enhancing the role of both public and private media in combating terrorism and extremist ideologies.
The meeting attended by technical high-level officers of both sides, including directors of Strategic Communication, Somali National Television, and Radi Mogadishu at the Ministry of Information. Following the meeting, Minister Al-Adala and Mr. Flannery toured the facilities of Radio Mogadish, Somali National Television, and the historical audio archive of Radio Muqdisho, where they observed the government media’s active role in counterterrorism communication.
The Deputy Minister of Information Hon, Abdirahman Al-Adala expressed his appreciation to the U.S. government for its continued support to Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, media, and countering violent extremism. He underscored the importance of joint efforts in confronting Al-Shabaab and promoting public awareness through effective media strategies.
Mr. Bob Flannery reiterated the United States’ commitment to deepening its partnership with the Somali government, especially in supporting counterterrorism media and communication initiatives and efforts to combat extremist narratives.
