Mogadishu, (SONNA) – Voter registration efforts continued this morning in the Mogadishu districts of Xamar Jajab, Waabari, and Abdicasis, as part of the ongoing preparations for Somalia’s upcoming local council elections set for June.
Hundreds of residents gathered at registration centers, forming long queues to register and take part in the democratic process. District commissioners welcomed the strong public turnout and encouraged more citizens to register and make their voices heard at the polls.
Residents expressed excitement at participating in a historic moment, noting that for the first time in over 50 years, they are registering to vote in local elections. After more than six decades, Somalis are reclaiming their constitutional right to elect local leadership—an important milestone welcomed nationwide.
