Mogadishu – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, convened a significant meeting with ambassadors and representatives of the international community stationed in Somalia. The primary focus of the discussions was the urgent need for international support in implementing the National Consultative Council’s resolution on the “one man, one vote” principle. The meeting aimed to forge a sustainable solution to address the aspirations of the Somali people and ensure the peaceful conduct of elections.

President Mohamud reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to overcome the challenges faced in stabilizing regions affected by terrorism, while emphasizing the crucial role of comprehensive social services in this process. He stressed the need for robust international support to effectively combat these challenges and pave the way for a prosperous and secure Somalia. The President further highlighted the importance of a strong partnership between the government and its citizens in achieving the objectives outlined in the 2024 Plan, which centers around nation-building.

The key agenda of the meeting revolved around the National Consultative Council’s resolution, which seeks to institute the “one man, one vote” principle in Somalia. This resolution aims to establish a transparent and inclusive electoral process that ensures the equal participation of all citizens in shaping the future of the nation. By discussing the resolution with international partners, President Mohamud sought their valuable support in realizing this fundamental democratic principle.

During the gathering, the President acknowledged the remarkable progress made by the Federal Government of Somalia in its relentless fight against Al-Shabaab terrorism. He highlighted the significance of sustained peace, security, and stability in the country, emphasizing the importance of countering the insurgency and ensuring the safety of all Somali citizens. The international community’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts in combating terrorism was warmly applauded.

Ambassadors from prominent nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, as well as representatives from the United Nations, the European Union, and the African Union, were present at the meeting. They praised the Federal Government’s achievements in its tireless efforts to combat Al-Shabaab terrorism. The ambassadors reiterated their unwavering commitment to supporting the government’s plans and strategies to maintain peace, security, stability, and to fulfill the National Consultative Council’s resolution on the “one man, one vote” principle.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties expressing their shared dedication to Somalia’s progress and development. President Mohamud expressed gratitude to the international community for their ongoing support and highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in achieving lasting peace and prosperity for the Somali people.

As Somalia continues its journey towards democratic governance, the resolute commitment of both domestic and international stakeholders remains crucial in realizing the National Consultative Council’s resolution and ensuring the fair and inclusive representation of all Somali citizens in the electoral process.
