Mogadishu, SONNA — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, today inaugurated the Somalia Computer Incident Response Team (SOMCIRT), marking the establishment of Somalia’s first national center dedicated to coordinating the prevention, detection, and response to cybersecurity incidents.

The launch represents a significant step in strengthening the country’s digital security architecture as Somalia continues expanding digital services and advancing its national digital transformation agenda.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre described the establishment of SOMCIRT as a major milestone in protecting the nation’s digital infrastructure and building trust in emerging digital services.

The establishment of SOMCIRT is expected to enhance coordination in addressing cyber threats while strengthening the protection of critical digital infrastructure across the country.

Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), explained that the center was established following extensive national consultations and technical assessments aimed at strengthening Somalia’s ability to respond to cyber threats.

The center will support incident reporting, issue alerts and warnings, coordinate responses to cyber threats, and promote cybersecurity awareness and cooperation among government institutions, the private sector, and international partners.

Authorities encouraged organizations and individuals to report cybersecurity incidents or seek guidance through the official platform www.somcirt.gov.so.
