Mogadishu, (SONNA) – A major security transformation is being witnessed in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, as the city is now considered safer than major international capitals such as Washington D.C. and New York in the United States, among others once regarded as some of the safest places in the world.
This historic achievement did not come naturally or through luck alone, but through the effort, sacrifice, and significant resources invested by the Somali government.
The Somali government deployed security experts and implemented strategic plans aimed at ensuring security across the region.
Cooperation Between the Public and the Government
For many years, Mogadishu ranked among the world’s most insecure cities, but today it has transformed into one of the most stable.
This rapid transformation is rooted in the close cooperation between the Somali people and the government, both of whom realized they share a common enemy threatening their lives and stability, and united against it. Since the security of every nation is tied to the stability of its capital, Mogadishu’s success represents Somalia’s broader success.
Pillars Behind the Security Progress
The country’s security leadership and institutions have been widely credited for the transformation witnessed in the capital. According to security officials, the major factors behind the change include:
Plainclothes Officers
The deployment of plainclothes security personnel working closely within communities and reporting potential threats.
Modern Technology
The installation of CCTV surveillance cameras along major roads, professionally implemented by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
Strengthening the Law
The approval and implementation of the law governing the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), alongside broader enforcement of national laws.
Institutional Cooperation
Ongoing cooperation among the country’s security agencies, particularly the Somali Police Force, which has further strengthened the city’s security.
A More Stable City
Today, security in the capital has reached a level where ordinary citizens in Mogadishu no longer spend their time preoccupied with insecurity. Instead, residents are increasingly focusing on their daily livelihoods and economic progress, as stability continues to improve across the city.
