Dhuusamareeb, August 10th, 2023 – The Somali National Army executed a meticulously planned and resoundingly successful military operation in Galhareeri district of the Galgaduud region, located within the Galmudug state. This operation, conducted with precision, targeted three key locations known to be operational bases for the notorious extremist group Al-Shabaab.

Acting on actionable intelligence, the Somali National Army decisively overran the terrorist targets, dealing a significant blow to Al-Shabaab’s capabilities and operations. Deputy Minister of Information, Mr. Abdirahman Yussuf Al Adala, confirmed that the operation resulted in heavy casualties inflicted upon the enemy, thereby dealing a severe setback to their operations.

The three primary targets of this operation were strategically chosen:

An operational garage where seven vehicles loaded with explosives were being prepared. The swift and calculated action of the Somali National Army thwarted a potentially devastating attack.

A weapons warehouse, housing a substantial cache of weaponry, was utterly destroyed. This successful strike severely disrupts Al-Shabaab’s capacity to carry out further acts of violence and terrorism.

A training center utilized by the terror group for indoctrination and recruitment. The elimination of this facility is a critical step towards dismantling the infrastructure that sustains Al-Shabaab’s presence.

The district of Galhareeri has been a stronghold for Al-Shabaab for an extended period, allowing them to exert control and sow fear within the region. The resolute and proactive actions of the Somali government mark a turning point, as they intensify efforts to counter and neutralize the threat posed by Al-Shabaab.

Acknowledging the vital role played by the local population of Galhareeri and international partners, the Somali government extends its gratitude for their collaboration and support. Their unwavering commitment to eradicating the menace of terrorism from Somalia is commendable.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, demonstrating his steadfast commitment to the security and stability of the nation, relocated his office to Dhuusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug state. This strategic move underscores the government’s determination to intensify efforts in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.

The Somali government is unequivocally resolute in its mission to eliminate the threat of Al-Shabaab from within its borders. The success of this operation stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and resolve of the Somali National Army, reaffirming the nation’s determination to ensure the safety and prosperity of its citizens.
