Cairo, (SONNA) — Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ali Abdi Aware, on Monday delivered a strong address at an emergency meeting at the Arab League headquarters, convened to discuss Israel’s declaration claiming recognition of Somalia’s Northwestern Regions.
Ambassador Aware firmly rejected the move, stressing that the Northwestern Regions are an inseparable part of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and that any purported recognition by Israel is null and void and a clear violation of international law. He underscored that Somalia, currently a member of the UN Security Council, remains fully committed to defending its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He warned that such actions pose a serious threat to regional stability and the security of Arab states, calling for a unified Arab response to what he described as repeated violations by Israel against Arab countries.
Ambassador Aware also reaffirmed that the Somali government will never accept the forced displacement of the Palestinian people or any proposal to relocate them to any part of Somali territory, emphasizing Somalia’s principled stance in support of Palestinian rights.
