MOGADISHU (SONNA) — The Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, convened a high-level security meeting on Thursday at his headquarters in Mogadishu. He officially received the Special Representative of the African Union and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, alongside AUSSOM Force Commander, General Sam Kavuma. The engagement prioritized the synchronization of military efforts between national and continental forces.
The closed-door discussions focused heavily on reinforcing the strategic cooperation and direct operational partnership between the Somali National Army Command and the AUSSOM deployment. A primary agenda item was the practical execution of the Security Transition Plan, a critical framework designed to systematically transfer full security responsibilities from African Union forces to Somali national security institutions. Both leadership teams evaluated the current progress of this transition to ensure that the restructuring of international troop presence aligns seamlessly with the capability generation and deployment readiness of the SNA.
In addition to the transition strategy, the military leaders deliberated on immediate tactical methods to accelerate the tempo of ongoing joint operations aimed at eradicating the Kharijite terrorist networks. The commanders reviewed battlefield logistics and operational adjustments needed to maintain momentum on the frontlines and effectively secure newly liberated territories.
Concluding the meeting, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud formally expressed his gratitude to the AUSSOM leadership. He commended the mission for its continuous, visible role in safeguarding national security and contributing to the broader stabilization of the Federal Republic of Somalia, reaffirming the SNA’s commitment to fighting alongside international partners until the terrorist threat is fully neutralized.
