Leaders of Egypt and Turkey Pledge Support for Somalia’s Unity Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Ankara, (SONNA): Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have jointly affirmed their commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia. The announcement came during a joint press conference held in Ankara, where both leaders emphasized the importance of regional stability and cooperation.

President El-Sisi highlighted the growing challenges in the region, emphasizing the necessity for collaborative efforts to stabilize Somalia. “The unity and territorial integrity of Somalia are paramount,” El-Sisi stated. “We must support Somalia in overcoming its current challenges and ensure peace and stability in the region.”

This declaration comes at a critical time for Somalia, which is facing increasing threats from Ethiopia. Ethiopia has been accused of attempting to annex parts of Somalia by recognizing a breakaway region, a move seen as a strategy to gain illegal access to the Somali Red Sea. This has escalated tensions, with Somalia recently signing a security cooperation agreement with Egypt, receiving full backing from the Arab League.

In response to the growing threat, Egypt has begun deploying military assets in Somalia, a move that has further strained relations with Ethiopia. The deployment has been met with strong opposition from Addis Ababa, which views it as a provocative act.

The situation remains tense, with regional stability hanging in the balance. The international community is closely monitoring the developments, as the actions of these key players could have far-reaching implications for the Horn of Africa.

As the leaders of Egypt and Turkey call for unity and cooperation, the world watches to see if these efforts will lead to a peaceful resolution or further escalate the conflict.
