Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Gor-Gor Commando forces, in coordination with the 14 October Brigade and the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), took control of the Marka area in the Lower Shabelle region following a planned operation carried out by the forces.
Al-Shabaab militants, who had been hiding in the area, fled after learning that government forces were approaching.
The Jilib Marka area is now calm, with allied units of the Somali National Army currently deployed there.
Local residents, who had been subjected to extortion and intimidation by Al-Shabaab militants, warmly welcomed the arrival of the national forces and expressed their gratitude for being freed from the group’s abuses.
