ALGIERS (SONNA) — Demonstrating a deliberate expansion of Somalia’s diplomatic reach in North Africa, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali-Hosh, held a high-level meeting with the President of Algeria, H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during an official visit to the country today.
At the center of this diplomatic engagement, Minister Ali-Hosh delivered a special written message from the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, directed to his Algerian counterpart. The communication formally highlights the mutual commitment of both nations to deepen their bilateral relations, enhance cooperation on regional security, and coordinate on broader African and Arab League affairs.
The reception at the Algerian presidential palace was attended by key stakeholders in the Algerian security and foreign policy apparatus. The gathering included the Acting Director of the Algerian Presidency, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Algerian Minister of Interior. Representing the Somali diplomatic mission, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Algeria was also in attendance alongside other senior state officials.
This official visit aligns with Mogadishu’s broader geopolitical strategy to strengthen alliances with historically influential African states. Engaging directly with the Algerian leadership provides Somalia with a critical platform to share perspectives on federal governance, counter-terrorism, and state-building, while securing essential diplomatic backing on the international stage.
