Mogadishu, SONNA — President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, addressed key national issues including constitutional implementation, direct elections, and Somalia’s political progress during an event marking the 83rd anniversary of the founding of the Somali Youth League (SYL) and the 15th Somali Youth Day.
Speaking at the commemorative event, the President stated that the implementation of the constitution has officially entered a new phase, particularly with the planned separation of Parliament and the National Assembly.
The implementation of the constitution has officially begun, and soon the Parliament and the National Assembly will be separated,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The President also reaffirmed that the current government’s constitutional term will conclude on May 15, 2027.
The term of office of my government will end on May 15, 2027,” the President stated.
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud further emphasized Somalia’s growing international recognition and diplomatic progress, noting the country’s participation in major global decision-making platforms.
Today, Somalia is part of the world’s most important decision-making bodies. The international community has accepted us, and we must preserve that standing,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The event brought together senior government officials, youth representatives, and members of the public to commemorate the historic role of SYL in Somalia’s independence struggle and nation-building efforts.
