Djibouti Delivers Stinging Condemnation of Israeli “Interference” in Somalia at UNSC

NEW YORK, United Nations – The Republic of Djibouti has issued one of the most forceful condemnations heard at the United Nations Security Council this Tuesday, denouncing Israel’s recent diplomatic maneuvers in the Horn of Africa as a flagrant violation of international law. Speaking during the urgent open briefing on the situation in Somalia, the Djiboutian delegation expressed its absolute rejection of the move, characterizing it as a direct assault on the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The delegation condemned the violation in the “strongest terms,” aligning itself with the African Union and the Arab League in rejecting any attempt to fragment the Somali state. Djibouti, a strategic neighbor and a key player in the security architecture of the Red size, warned that such interference constitutes a dangerous provocation that threatens the delicate stability of the entire region. The diplomats argued that respecting the territorial integrity of member states is a non-negotiable principle of the UN Charter.

During the address, the Djiboutian representatives denounced the “interference” by Israel, stating that recognizing the Somaliland region as an independent entity is legally void and politically reckless. They emphasized that the unity of Somalia is intrinsic to the security of Djibouti itself and the broader East African community. The delegation made it clear that Djibouti would not stand idly by while external actors attempt to redraw the map of the Horn of Africa for their own strategic gain.

Reaffirming its “unwavering support” for the Federal Republic, Djibouti pledged to continue working alongside the Federal Government in Mogadishu to defend its independence. The statement highlighted the deep historical and fraternal bonds between the two nations, declaring that the defense of Somali sovereignty is a collective duty. This strong diplomatic intervention at the highest level of international governance reinforces the isolation of the recognition bid and solidifies the regional firewall protecting Somalia’s unity.
