Djibouti (SONNA): The Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), Ahmed Hussein Elmi, participated in the Annual Conference on “Protection and Durable Solutions” for displaced populations, held in Djibouti City, Djibouti.
The meeting brought together representatives from IGAD member states, international organizations, and diplomats from various embassies. Participants reviewed reports compiled over several months, highlighting progress made under this year’s “Protection and Durable Solutions” initiatives, as well as the challenges that persist across IGAD countries.
In his remarks, Commissioner Ahmed Hussein Elmi underscored key priorities led by the Federal Government of Somalia, including:
- The impact of declining humanitarian assistance.
- The growing effects of climate change and the rising number of internally displaced people.
- Significant progress achieved in the implementation of the Domestic Displacement Protection and Assistance Bill.
Delegations attending the conference commended the steps taken by the Federal Government of Somalia, praising its continued efforts to address the challenges facing internally displaced communities across the country.
