Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali National Armed Forces (SNA), in collaboration with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), this afternoon fully secured the strategic town of Bariire in the Lower Shabelle region, following a week-long offensive.
During the operation, over 100 Al-Shabaab militants were killed, while several others were captured alive. The forces are now conducting clearance operations in the town and surrounding areas, seizing a significant cache of weapons and military supplies.
The Ministry of Defence commends the bravery of the SNA, AUSSOM, and the support of international partners, and will share further details once information gathering is complete.
