Nairobi, Kenya – Mr. Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA), recently participated in a significant meeting held in Nairobi. The meeting focused on the crucial task of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information pertaining to both internally and externally displaced persons.
The forum brought together a diverse group of experts, representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia, policymakers, senior officials from SODMA, and other stakeholders. Discussions centered around several key areas, including consultations aimed at strengthening early warning systems for various hazards, promoting proactive early response mechanisms, and enhancing the overall resilience of communities.
A primary objective of the meeting was to ensure that vulnerable communities receive adequate protection before, during, and after climate-induced events, which are increasingly impacting the region.
The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Displaced Movement Model (DTM) was highlighted as a vital tool for providing critical information necessary to guide effective planning and response strategies to the complex issues surrounding displacement.
Commissioner Abdulle’s attendance at this meeting reflects Somalia’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by climate change and displacement in a collaborative and informed manner, working alongside regional and international partners to build resilience and protect vulnerable populations.
