Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somali security forces, in coordination with international partners, carried out a series of planned military operations on Tuesday in the Guulane area of the Middle Shabelle region, killing at least 33 Al-Shabaab militants and destroying key militant infrastructure.
The operation, led by National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) with international partners, targeted sites where Al-Shabaab militants were regrouping and planning attacks.
In the first strike, forces hit a house hosting senior operatives, killing at least 15 militants and destroying the site. Follow-up operations in Guulane killed more than 18 fighters and destroyed an armed vehicle used for transport.
Officials said the action was based on intelligence that about 90 militants had gathered to launch attacks, adding the operation significantly reduced the immediate threat.
