Baghdad, Iraq – On the sidelines of the Arab League Foreign Ministers’ Conference in Baghdad, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdisalan Abdi Ali, held a bilateral meeting on Thursday with his Egyptian counterpart, Mr. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Communities of Egypt.

During their discussion, Minister Abdisalan expressed Somalia’s gratitude for Egypt’s consistent support towards achieving peace and stability in the country. He specifically commended Egypt’s active participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Furthermore, Minister Abdisalan affirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation between Somalia and Egypt and to fostering the exchange of valuable experiences between the two nations.

In response, Minister Badr Abdelatty extended his congratulations to his Somali counterpart on his recent appointment. He reiterated Egypt’s dedication to enhancing the strong fraternal ties between the two countries, highlighting that bilateral relations have reached a new level of strategic partnership following the visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Cairo in January 2025.

Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the unity and independence of Somalia. He also pledged Egypt’s commitment to supporting capacity-building and training initiatives for Somalis, aimed at ensuring the effective functioning of government institutions.

Both ministers expressed their agreement to continue their close collaboration to deepen the existing cooperation across various sectors and to work together towards strengthening regional stability through joint efforts. This meeting reflects the strong and growing relationship between Somalia and Egypt and their shared commitment to regional peace and development.
