The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, has officially inaugurated the construction of the Central Headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, a modern facility aimed at strengthening public service delivery and institutional efficiency.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Prime Minister stated that the project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to develop national infrastructure and stimulate economic growth. He noted that the new headquarters will address the operational needs of the Ministry and enhance its capacity to effectively serve the Somali people.
The state-of-the-art building is designed to meet the standards required for modern government institutions, supporting improved coordination, efficiency, and service delivery. It reflects the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to upgrading public infrastructure as a foundation for sustainable development.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre further highlighted the government’s ambitious plans to expand access to essential services, including efforts to provide free electricity to all government and public institutions such as healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and administrative offices. He also noted ongoing initiatives to regulate and improve water supply systems in more than 20 cities across the country.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized that Somalia is adapting to evolving global economic conditions by prioritizing self-sufficiency and increased domestic production, particularly in critical sectors such as energy and water resources.
The project marks a significant step in strengthening Somalia’s institutional framework and advancing efforts to deliver reliable and efficient services to citizens nationwide.
