Baidoa, Somalia – The Somali National Army (SNA) successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack by Khawarij militants in the Gasarta area, located between Baidoa and Deynuunay, military officials confirmed.
According to local sources, the SNA engaged the militants after they attempted to launch an assault, leaving around 10 Khawarij fighters dead. The bodies of the militants were seen scattered across the site of the foiled attack, approximately 7 kilometers east of Baidoa.
“The Khawarij terrorists tried to carry out an attack, but our brave forces were prepared and defeated them decisively,” a military official stated. “Their bodies remain at the scene as a clear message that such threats will not be tolerated.”
Residents in Gasarta reported hearing heavy gunfire during the confrontation but expressed relief that the attack was neutralized before reaching civilian areas.
No SNA casualties have been reported in the clash. Security forces remain on high alert as operations continue to dismantle remaining militant cells in the region.
This latest victory marks another setback for insurgent groups as the Somali government pushes to restore stability in the country.
