Baku, Azerbaijan – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ambassador Khadija Al-Makhzoumi, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Global Center for Climate Mobility. The agreement aims to bolster support for environmentally vulnerable communities across the country.

This landmark partnership marks a critical step in Somalia’s efforts to build a resilient and sustainable future. The agreement is centered on empowering communities that are most affected by climate change, ensuring their safety, and enhancing the effectiveness of the nation’s climate change adaptation strategies.

Ambassador Al-Makhzoumi emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership represents our commitment to addressing the needs of our most vulnerable populations. By working together with the Global Center for Climate Mobility, we can implement targeted projects that reflect the specific needs of our people, and build a stronger, more resilient Somalia.”

The agreement outlines the provision of financial support for various projects aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities. These projects will focus on improving infrastructure, enhancing access to clean water, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, the partnership aims to strengthen local administration, fostering trust and cooperation within communities.

The Global Center for Climate Mobility praised Somalia’s proactive approach to climate resilience and pledged to provide the necessary technical and operational support to achieve the goals outlined in the agreement. “We are dedicated to supporting Somalia in its journey towards sustainable development. This cooperation agreement is a testament to our shared commitment to protecting and empowering vulnerable communities,” stated a representative from the center.

The signing of this agreement is a milestone in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change and build a sustainable future. By focusing on the needs of environmentally vulnerable communities, Somalia is taking concrete steps towards achieving its climate resilience goals and ensuring a better quality of life for its citizens.

As Somalia continues to face the challenges posed by climate change, the support and collaboration of international partners like the Global Center for Climate Mobility will be crucial. This agreement sets the stage for a new era of sustainable development, where the needs of the most vulnerable are at the forefront of national efforts.
