Mogadishu, 18 Jan 2024 (SONNA) – A devastating plane crash occurred today at around 11:30 AM in Eelbarde district of Bakool region, claiming one life and leaving two others injured. The plane, contracted by the United Nations and carrying humanitarian aid, veered off the runway while landing on an airstrip in El-Barde.
The aircraft was en route from Mogadishu with UN workers onboard, particularly from the World Food Programme section. Unfortunately, it crashed near the airport area.
The United Nations in Somalia expressed its deep condolences to the family and colleagues of the victim and wishes a speedy recovery for those injured. The organization is currently working closely with federal and South West State authorities as well as with the contracted airline company to thoroughly investigate this tragic incident.
