New York, SONNA – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in New York City on Monday evening to lead a high-level meeting at the United Nations General Assembly focused on Somalia’s security, military reconstruction, and liberation operations.
Representatives from 26 countries, the United Nations, the Arab League, the European Union, and the African Union are attending the conference. The agenda includes:
- Progress and Challenges in Somalia’s Security Sector: This session will assess the current state of Somalia’s security forces and identify key areas for improvement.
- Somalia Security Development Plan: Participants will discuss the implementation of the national security architecture and its effectiveness in addressing security threats.
- Somalia’s International Support for Security and Development: The conference will explore ways to enhance international cooperation and support for Somalia’s ongoing security and development efforts.
The conference is expected to conclude with a joint statement outlining the key outcomes and next steps for supporting Somalia’s security and development agenda.
