Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Commissioner of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Macalin Abdulle, on Monday officially closed a national consultative conference in Mogadishu on the development of the National Anticipatory Action Strategy, a framework designed to guide Somalia’s preparedness and early response to disasters.

The three-day conference concluded with a set of actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to predict, prepare for, and mitigate the impact of natural hazards. The launch of the National Strategy is widely viewed as a major milestone in enhancing Somalia’s ability to anticipate emergencies and take rapid, life-saving measures.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Director Khadar said the strategy is the product of a nationwide consultation process, in-depth technical discussions, and collective endorsement by all partners.

“Today marks a long-awaited moment. This roadmap reflects years of hard work, extensive consultations, and continuous technical reviews. The government has remained closely engaged throughout the process, but it is you — our partners — who made this achievement possible,” he said.

Senior representatives from DRC, FAO, WFP, and IGAD delivered congratulatory remarks, praising the spirit of collaboration and reaffirming their sustained support for Somalia’s anticipatory action efforts.

In his closing remarks, the SoDMA Chairman described the strategy as the outcome of rigorous technical work, national dialogue, and strong cooperation between government institutions, IGAD, and international partners. The roadmap is supported by the SCALAA project, funded by DG ECHO and implemented by WFP, FAO, IFRC, DRC, and ICPAC.

Over recent months, the strategy underwent nationwide consultations, technical analysis, and review meetings involving SoDMA, various government ministries, and experts from humanitarian and development agencies. These engagements ensured that the roadmap is evidence-based, context-appropriate, and fully aligned with the country’s needs — marking a unified commitment to predictable, coordinated, and crisis-resilient disaster preparedness in Somalia.
