Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somali National Army’s elite Danab Commandos carried out a planned military operation in the Gambole district of the Middle Shabelle region, successfully rescuing civilians who had been abducted by Al-Shabaab militants.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the operation resulted in the release of nine civilians who were being held captive by the group. Security forces also killed five Al-Shabaab fighters during the mission, including the group’s local ringleader.
The Ministry said the operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Somali National Armed Forces to strengthen security and dismantle militant networks responsible for attacks against civilians.
Officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying military operations aimed at eliminating extremist groups and restoring peace and stability across the country.
