Somalia Set to Launch Centennial Vision 2060, Aligning with Africa’s Agenda 2063

Mogadishu, SONNA — Somalia is poised to take a bold step toward long-term development and regional integration with the official unveiling of its Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060). The comprehensive national strategy, developed in collaboration with national and international experts, aims to transform Somalia into an upper-middle-income country by 2060—marking the centenary of the nation’s independence. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will preside over the landmark event, underscoring the government’s commitment to forward-looking, inclusive, and sustainable growth.

The Centennial Vision 2060 is a strategic framework designed to guide Somalia’s socio-economic transformation over the next 35 years. Aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the blueprint reflects Somalia’s aspirations for peace, prosperity, and global competitiveness within the African continent and beyond.

The vision will be operationalized through a sequence of seven five-year National Transformation Plans (NTPs), starting with the newly formulated NTP 1. These plans will serve as phased implementation roadmaps to drive structural reforms, economic diversification, and human development.

CV2060 marks the first time Somalia has developed such a far-reaching development agenda grounded in both national realities and continental ambitions. The plan emphasizes inclusive governance, resilient infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and a knowledge-driven economy.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to deliver keynote remarks during the official launch, highlighting the government’s commitment to building a stable, prosperous, and self-reliant Somalia for future generations.

As Somalia prepares to roll out the first of its mid-term plans, stakeholders at all levels—from government agencies and civil society to development partners—are being called upon to align their efforts with the vision’s goals. The unveiling of CV2060 signals a renewed national focus on long-term planning, institution-building, and regional integration.

By setting its sights on 2060, Somalia is not only looking back at a century of independence but also charting a new course for a future defined by resilience, opportunity, and progress.
