Geneva, (SONNA) – The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Salah Ahmed Jama, participated today in crucial discussions regarding Somalia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
These talks, long-awaited by Somalia, are vital for the country’s efforts to enhance trade cooperation and stimulate economic growth. Joining the WTO would provide Somalia with access to international markets, strengthen foreign investment, and facilitate global trade.
Somalia has previously joined regional organizations such as the East African Community (EAC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), which are essential for boosting economic collaboration in the region.
Furthermore, in 2025, Somalia will officially take a seat on the United Nations Security Council, underscoring the active role the Somali government plays in global affairs. This participation in the WTO talks reflects Somalia’s commitment to integrating into the global economy and enhancing its international standing.
