Wajid, Bakool Region – Somali National Army (SNA) forces have successfully thwarted an attack planned by the Khawarij in Wajid District, Bakool Region. The 95th unit of the 9th brigade, 60th unit, stationed in Wajid, played a key role in disrupting the militants’ plans and ensuring the safety of the local population.
During the operation, security forces captured Abdullahi Ahmed Mohamed, also known as Abdicasis, who was identified as the Khawarij’s photographer responsible for filming their activities. His arrest marks a critical blow to the group’s propaganda and operational capabilities in the region.
In addition to foiling the planned attack, the SNA discovered and neutralized several landmines planted by the Khawarij in strategic locations. The explosives were intended to target civilians and disrupt daily life in Wajid. One of the landmines was placed near the district airport, while another was found between the city and the airport, highlighting the militants’ intent to cause maximum harm and chaos.
The swift action by the Somali National Army and local security forces has been praised as a prove to their growing effectiveness in countering threats posed by the Khawarij.
