Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Isaak Mohamud Mursal, on Saturday officially opened the 7th Youth Resilience Conference in Mogadishu, marking the first time the event has been held in the Somali capital.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the deputy minister said hosting the conference in Mogadishu reflected ongoing efforts toward stability and the growing role of young people in national development. He described Somali youth, both inside the country and in the diaspora, as key contributors to the country’s recovery and future prospects.
Hon. Mursal acknowledged the Diaspora Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , and the Mideynta Community Service Organization for organizing the event, highlighting cooperation between Somalis at home and abroad. He noted that the Somali diaspora continues to play a role in skills transfer, investment, and community support.
The deputy minister also referred to recent political developments, stating that Somalia has taken steps to strengthen institutions, broaden political participation, and advance reforms aimed at more inclusive and transparent electoral processes.
Addressing the conference theme of resilience, he cited examples of youth-led initiatives, including entrepreneurship, digital innovation in education and health, peacebuilding efforts, and climate-related activities. He also noted the participation of young Somalis from the diaspora who have returned to support development efforts.
The two-day conference brings together youth participants, community organizations, and government representatives to discuss challenges and opportunities facing Somali youth. Hon. Mursal concluded his remarks by formally declaring the 7th Youth Resilience Conference open.
