Mogadishu, SONNA — Security forces in Mogadishu have successfully foiled a planned attack after intercepting a motorcycle loaded with mortars and explosive devices intended to destabilize the capital.
The operation, conducted at approximately 23:40 hours, was based on credible intelligence provided by residents, highlighting the critical role of public cooperation in maintaining security.
According to officials, forces tracked suspicious movements in and around the Deynile district, leading to the seizure of a motorcycle carrying up to five mortars concealed inside containers disguised as vegetables. The explosives were reportedly intended to be transported into the city for use in attacks targeting civilians.
The individual operating the motorcycle attempted to detonate the explosives upon realizing he was about to be apprehended. However, security forces acted swiftly to neutralize the threat and prevent the explosion.
Authorities confirmed that the explosives and the motorcycle were secured, and images of the seized materials have been documented as part of the operation.
