TRIPOLI (SONNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, successfully executed a critical consultative summit with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the State of Libya, H.E. Taher Al-Baour, in Tripoli today. The bilateral engagement focused directly on fortifying diplomatic relations and engineering joint operational frameworks to neutralize urgent transnational security and humanitarian challenges.
A primary objective of the executive dialogue was addressing the severe crisis generated by irregular migration networks operating across North Africa. Minister Abdisalam emphasized the absolute necessity of protecting Somali citizens from exploitation, firmly rejecting the human cost associated with these unregulated transit routes. Both delegations committed to aggressive, coordinated actions to dismantle the transnational criminal syndicates driving human trafficking. By targeting the core infrastructure of these illicit networks, the two republics aim to eliminate the physical and financial exploitation of vulnerable demographics and halt the human tragedies caused by unsafe transport operations.
Demonstrating a definitive commitment to citizen protection, the Somali government utilized this summit to coordinate the imminent repatriation of approximately 400 Somali youth currently stranded in Libya. This highly organized extraction operation builds upon the successful return of over 2,000 nationals executed over the past few years. Beyond immediate consular operations, the two ministers aligned their strategic positions on broader regional and international developments. They established a sustained coordination mechanism to guarantee mutual stability and actively advance the shared geopolitical interests of both sovereign states.
