MOGADISHU, Somalia – The electoral process for the Banadir regional council took a significant step forward today as several political organizations officially submitted their lists of candidates to the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC).

In a formal procedure held in Mogadishu, the commission received the rosters of aspirants who will compete in the upcoming “one person, one vote” local council elections. The political organizations that handed over their candidate files today include:

Ramaas Political Organization

Karaama Political Organization

Somali Unity Saab Political Organization

Justice and Unity Political Organization (Cadaaladda iyo Wadajirka)

This submission process is a critical component of the commission’s efforts to ensure the election is conducted with transparency, efficiency, and strict adherence to the previously announced schedule. The move signals the readiness of these political actors to engage in the democratic process and vie for the mandate to manage the capital’s districts.

Speaking on the progress of the registration phase, the Chairman of the NIEBC, Mr. Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, acknowledged the organizations that have complied with the requirements. He issued a stern reminder to the remaining political associations that have not yet finalized their documentation.

Chairman Abdikarim emphasized that the window for submission is closing rapidly, urging all remaining parties to submit their complete candidate lists before the final deadline of December 10. The commission reiterated that adhering to this timeline is essential for the timely printing of ballot papers and the overall logistical success of the historic poll.
